A hypnotic saga
I used to have this episodes of pain
Which sometimes culminated in a collapse,
Being in hospital campus, made it easy
For my wonderful colleagues to just
Swiftly move me to the emergency…
When those episodes arrived,
The first one to be called up by friends
Would be the 'doc' friend;
Who would run in from his busy schedules,
It was mutual mental satisfaction.
He would start with ridiculous casual remarks
And I would laugh in excruciating pain and breathlessness,
He remarked once: "you know,
You need to get a tattoo done"
It was in the midst of one of my laughter bouts,
"You should do it between your nose and lips"
My eyes were larger and in a questioning mode,
As he continued: " it should read: 'please close the mouth, I'm dead'.
I'm sure you would die in the midst of laughter one day"
I would rather be happy to die like that.
He is one of the compassionate doctors,
I have ever known,
The quality I find extremely wonderful.
Said that, I have seen him digging his head into the phone,
While I would be out of breath and trying hard to catch next,
Me imagining him, reading some important text,
That helps me improve,
And as his thoughtful face gets deeper,
I would ask what,
And he would be like, "Oh! Nothing,
A hard level of 'candy crush.'"
And one day, during a recurrent episode of extreme pain,
He insisted on visiting more doctors for diagnosis,
Which I had resisted and that day I yielded.
He came along and we went to the 'Neuro'.
The doctor said to sit on examination table,
I dutifully followed,
I sat with my legs dangling.
He asked me to close my eyes
And not to open until he says,
Also that they would catch if I fall.
The veteran doctor with greyed hair,
Stood in front of me, his assistant to my right,
And my friend to my left.
I closed my eyes,
That is the moment when I remembered,
That I need to start making my poster,
For the upcoming conference in that week,
I had a pending experiment,
Which couldn't be executed as I had an ill health.
I started arranging the figures on poster in my mind,
It was a much awaited conference,
I wanted to be my best.
Even after a while, I was not asked to open my eyes,
I continued the virtual arrangements,
I do not know how many minutes had passed,
And finally, I was told to open my eyes.
I opened, and saw the veteran doctor,
Having a sweet grandpa smile,
Wrinkles formed near his eyes,
He was smiling at my friend,
And he calmly exclaimed:
'She resisted my hypnosis'.
My friend stood silent,
I was wondering, I never knew he was trying to hypnotise!
We walked out of his room,
My friend started laughing and asked,
'You know what that means?'
I had no idea what that meant,
Though I joined the laughter.
'He is one of the most renowned neurologists',
I raised my brows, still I didn't know what it meant.
He was laughing all the way,
Saying 'stories' to friends…
When you have friends who laugh,
While it's distress, and you laugh along stupidly,
Life gets easier to live through hardships.
That's for you Vijay- for all the stupid moments shared😛. The moments worth living.
